Biofertech and Seed Balls Ethiopia: Towards a Gigaton Carbon Project for Africa

A strategic partnership emerging under the CAYACC, African Union and CAADP framework at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

As climate change intensifies across Africa, the continent is not only facing one of the world’s greatest environmental challenges — it is also emerging as one of the most strategic geographies for large-scale carbon sequestration, land regeneration, and climate-smart agricultural transformation.

It is in this spirit that Biofertech and Seed Balls Ethiopia began shaping a bold shared vision for a Gigaton Carbon Project for Africa, under the framework of the CAYACC, the African Union, and the CAADP event held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

This emerging partnership reflects far more than a bilateral collaboration between two innovative African companies. It represents the rise of a new generation of African-led climate partnerships, rooted in practical solutions, regenerative land systems, and a shared ambition to restore degraded landscapes at scale across the continent.

By bringing together Biofertech’s expertise in soil regeneration, innovative soil amendments, climate-smart agriculture, and carbon monitoring with Seed Balls Ethiopia’s experience in ecological restoration and seed-based revegetation, the two organizations are laying the foundations for an integrated continental model that links above-ground biomass restoration with below-ground carbon stabilization.
